Cricket Guide.

 

PURCHASING A NEW CRICKET BAT.

Adult.

Available in Short or Long Handle.

Most cricketers will find short handle more comfortable to use unless very tall 6ft plus.

Bat blades come in varying qualities, Grade 1 Willow on the top Bats £160 to £250 suitable for County or 1st team players.

Grade 2 Willow on bats £100.00 to £150.00, suitable for most average team players.

Kashmir Willow (Indian). £36.00 to £80.00. Suitable for beginners or team kit bags.

When choosing your bat, weight should not be to heavy or this may affect your timing.

Junior.

It is important not to buy a bat to big or to heavy.

Players should be able to take  the bat into their normal back lift position.

The rule of thumb is that the handle should come to waist height.

PREPARING A NEW BAT.

Cricket bats can be purchased as ready play or natural finish.

Ready Play ( Pre Knocked In ) only requires 1 hour Knocking in/Preparation.

Natural finish requires oiling toe guard if preferred and 5/ 6 hours Knocking In/Preparation over a 2 week period.

 

 

PURCHASING BATTING  LEGGUARDS.

Pads come in varying sizes, Small Boys, Boys, Youths, Mens, and Oversize Men’s.

The horizontal Kneepad should be level with the knee.

The weight of the pad is dependent on the quality, the more expensive the pads the lighter they become with no loss in protection.

Prices From £18.00 to £90.00.

 

PURCHASING BATTING GLOVES.

Gloves are sizes as batting pads.

Various designs can be seen on line from sausage finger to the more flexible design.

The more expensive the glove the more protection and lightness required when batting for long periods.

When choosing gloves make sure there is enough room for inners or finger less inners if you wish to use them.

Prices From £8.50 to £55.00.

 

PURCHASING FOOTWEAR.

When choosing footwear there are the folllowing options.

RUBBER soles for Astro turf, indoor nets and hard ground.

½ SPIKES. For hard ground or when batting.

FULL SPIKES. For soft ground  for batting and fielding.

MULTI OPTION. Some models are able to be made into all of the above by adding soft spikes.

BOWLING BOOTS. Used by bowlers to give added ankle protection.

 

 

PURCHASING A HELMET.

Measure around the circumference of head to determine size.

Size Chart for guidance.

BOYS, 49/51 CM.

X.SMALL 52/53 CM.

SMALL 54/56 CM.

MEDUIM 57/58 CM.

LARGE 59/61 CM.

X.LARGE 62/63 CM.

Sizes may vary slightly on brand.

Alternatively you may choose to purchase one of the adjustable helmets now available.
