NORDIC WALKING TECHNIQUE
|
THE LEKI NORDIC WALKING TECHNIQUE
The technique is a simple extension of normal arm swing when walking. The pole tips remain behind you, pointing diagonally backwards at all times. Keeping the arms relaxed and keeping the poles behind the body are the building blocks of good technique.
-
Shoulders are relaxed and down, elbows are held close to the body and arms are straight but relaxed.
-
The hands are opened slightly to allow the poles to swing forward - the poles are not gripped tightly, but swing from the wrist straps.
-
The leading foot strikes the ground as the opposite arm swings forward to waist height; the opposite pole strikes the ground level with the heel of the opposite foot.
-
The poles always remain pointing diagonally backwards.
-
Push the pole as far back as possible, the arm straightening to form a continuous line with the fully extended arm, the hand opening off the grip by the end of the arms swing.
-
The foot rolls through the step to push off with the toe. This lengthens the stride behind the body, getting the most out of each stride. |
ADJUSTING YOUR NORDIC WALKING POLES
|
ADJUSTING YOUR POLES
People come in all sizes and heights. That's why LEKI developed the Easy Lock System. You can lengthen or shorten your poles as needed, and do it with less tightening effort that any other adjustable pole. This also allows you to accommodate for the increase in stride length that is experienced once you have developed a good Nordic Walking technique.
-
To adjust the pole height, hold it horizontally with your left hand on the upper section and you right hand on the lower section. Begin turning the lower section in your right hand, towards you, approximately 5-10 turns or until you can slide the sections apart easily.
-
Place the pole upright and with your hand holding the grip; bend your elbow to 90 degrees, making small adjustments in the height of the pole as you get in position.
-
Lock the correct adjustment by holding the pole horizontally again with the lower section in your right hand. Begin turning the lower section away from you 5 -10 turns until you feel the sections starting to lock.
-
Now, place the pole in the upright position and straighten your arm, allowing a slight bend at the elbow... that's it, the correct Nordic Walking position for maximum traction and power.
-
Put your hand into the Adjustable/Releasable Trigger Strap and you're ready to go.
ADJUSTING THE TRIGGER STRAP
LEKI's Adjustable/Releasable Trigger Strap offers superior wrist support and the convenience of a releasable system. The strap stays on your hand while you can easily click in and out of the grip, making it convenient for stretching before heading out on your walk or grabbing a water break.
-
The Trigger Strap is designed to fit on the right and left hand, indicated by a red "R" or "L" on the strap. Loosen the strap and insert your hand into the strap area, making sure the red elasticated area is between your thumb and forefinger. Tighten the strap across the back of your hand to a comfortable snugness.
-
To release the Trigger Strap, pull the release lever on top of the grip towards you, while pulling your hand (within the strap) away from the grip. To click the Trigger Strap back into the grip, simply push the ridged connector piece into the slot until the last click. |
